A strategic plan for a critical intersection of culture, history and connectivity
The Redfern North Eveleigh Precinct Renewal is a key city-shaping project that will open up an historic area of Sydney for the first time in almost a century. The precinct has significant heritage, a diverse cultural mix with a clear Aboriginal identity, and is supported by excellent transport connections. TERROIR was commissioned by Transport for NSW to undertake a comprehensive site investigation and preliminary design phase for the Redfern North Eveleigh Precinct. The preliminary design phase identified key considerations for Redfern Station upgrade, the Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Line Development site, and the Redfern North Eveleigh Precinct Renewal. This work was done in consultation and collaboration with Transport for NSW and their key representatives.
A vision was established as the first step in the new strategic planning process for the renewal of the precinct. The Redfern North Eveleigh Precinct will be a connected centre for living, creativity and employment opportunities that support the jobs of the future. An inclusive, active and sustainable place for everyone, where communities gather. To guide the vision of the precinct, a series of principles were developed and grouped into key themes. These principles were put in place to inform future planning on the site, and consider the Transport for NSW priorities of sustainability (environmental, economic and social) , with opportunities for adaptability and an overarching requirement to deliver a sustainable precinct.
